The Album
“It was not premeditated!
Our then drummer told me about new interesting recordings of the shows we held in this club in our region.
So I went to his house and there was material for a live two-record set. I ended up choosing five tracks that best represent the initial years of the project”-Selvans
And so it was! The Hirpi live opens with the first song ever composed by Selvans, ‘Lupercale’. It goes on with ‘Hirpi Sorani’ and ‘O Citumne’. It enjoys an excursus into the past with an anthem for the local metal community, the cover song of the Draugr’s ‘Furore Pagano’, before concluding with the majestic ‘Pater Surgens’.
Along with the old line-up of that period, that consists of Fulguriator and Acheron (guitars), Cordyceps (bass) and Hyakrisht (drum), we performed ‘Furore Pagano’ with Triumphator (guitar) and Stolas (bass), two old acquaintances.
“My time in Draugr, with Triumphator and Stolas, is tied to about ten years of memories. I therefore thought to invite them on stage to propose again some cover songs in memory of Jonny, three years after his demise. I was glad to close the concert with ‘Furore Pagano’, after all: it is a symbol of those years, which means a lot to me.
There is: my one time line-up, two brothers of another era and several others under the stage in this live concert… a pack, in other words!
Hence the name ‘Hirpi’, which means ‘Lupi’ in the ancient dialect of a warrior people of my region.”– Selvans
